I have made enquiries about connecting an external antenna to my Nokia 2280 cdma phone and was told an antenna could only be connected using a velcro attached patch lead.I have tried one and it is completely useless,no gain at all using the external antenna.Anyone got suggestions on how to connect an antenna, maybe a car kit has an antenna connection when it plugs into the bottom of the phone. Thanks for any help

Sorry, but what is a velcro attached patch lead? I do know what a patch lead is ... mine plugs into the back of my Nokia 6385 & the other end connects to the lead from the CDMA external aerial (an 'ugly').

Hi Ol Coot,

When I enquired about the external antenna for a 2280 I was told that you use the car kit where the antenna lead is connected to the car kit and signal is passed from the phone to the car kit (no direct connection). They can then use a windscreen or external antenna (broomstick).
Hope this assists.

Ian

Hi I was told when I bought my nokia 2280 that you couldn't plug in an external
aerial to this model .So unless someone has made something aftermarket I think you will be out of luck sorry.

Hi Ol Coot,

I have a Nokia 6225 CDMA and a genuine Nokia proximity antenae connection (part of the car kit). The 6225 also doesn't have an antenae plug hence the proximity connection. It is NOT simply a patch lead stuck near the phone, but a re-radiating antenea. Simplicstically, it uses the signal from broomstick antenae and re-radiates the signal via the proximity connection (basically another antenae). Hope my description makes sense.

It works very well, much better than my expectations.

Cheers

Captain

I think all Nokia phones except the 6385 use the reradiating method to connect antennas now. Works fine for my digital 3200 in a genuine Nokia car kit with broom stick type antenna.

to ginga and ian.The patch lead is connected as normal to the antenna lead and is connect to the phone by a strip of velcro glued to the patch lead end and the other velcro strip glued to the phone in the phone antenna area.I hope this makes sense.I suppose the attachment is like the "through the glass"antenna connections that you stick on your windsreen but my setup does'nt improve the signal

I have a Nokia 6100 and I was about to tell you the only way you can connect your phone to an external antenna is with a Nokia Cark 126 carkit and use the antenna coupler hooked up to the antenna of your choice (I have mine hooked up to a ZGC Scalar antenna) and I have found the performance surprisingly better than expected but I had a quick look on the Nokia web site and the car kit supports your phone but there isn't an antenna coupler so I think you are out of luck!!

Here's an excerpt from a recent communication with Nokia regarding the 2280.

"Unfortunately, Nokia do not produce an external aerial for any the car
kits, however we have an Antenna Coupler which is compatible with this
Nokia 2280. An Antenna Coupler (model no : AXF-15S) provides a link to an
external antenna via FME connector. "

Have a look at:

http://www.cellink.com.au/products/index.php?cPath=143_145

and set filter to 2280 seems like the adaptor might do the trick.

Hmmm.... just spoke with a representative at Celllink who told me that the adaptor suitable for the Nokia 2280 is some kind of infra-red coupler that you stick near the 2280's antenna. Dunno - sounds a bit tricky.

Well, the 2280 adaptor is $14.75 from Wagner (02 97989233) so I've ordered it to give it a go - try it with a DickSmith's "Cellfinder" antenna maybe.
